Botox in Slidell, LA

What to Expect Before, During, and After

First-time Botox patients almost always say the same thing after their appointment: that was way easier than I expected. The anticipation is usually the hardest part. Knowing what actually happens, from the consultation through the first two weeks, takes most of that out of the equation.

At Infinite Med Spa in Slidell, LA, every Botox patient goes through a consultation before anything is injected. That's not a formality. It's where we figure out what you actually want, assess your muscle movement, and build a treatment plan around your face rather than a standard protocol. Here's exactly what that process looks like.

Before Your Appointment: The Consultation

Botox at Infinite Med Spa is consultation-first, always. You don't book a treatment and show up to get injected. You come in, we look at your face, we talk about your goals, and we decide together what makes sense.

At your consultation, your provider will assess your facial anatomy and muscle movement, discuss which areas you want to address and what realistic results look like for those areas, walk you through unit estimates and what everything costs before you commit to anything, and flag any contraindications, like certain medications or conditions, that affect whether Botox is appropriate right now.

This is also where you tell us how you want to look. Some patients want significant smoothing. Others want to soften lines while keeping noticeable movement. That preference changes how we dose, and we need to hear it before we start. There's no right answer, just the one that's right for you.

For a deeper look at how units work and what different areas of the face actually need, our plain-language Botox guide covers that in detail before your consultation if you want to come in already knowing the right questions to ask.

The Day of Your Appointment

Come in with a clean face if possible. No thick makeup or heavy skincare on the treatment areas, which makes the prep faster and the treatment easier.

Here's what happens once you're in the treatment room:

Your skin is cleansed and the injection sites are mapped based on your consultation plan. Most providers use a fine marker to dot the precise points before injecting. The needle used for Botox is very fine, significantly smaller than a standard blood draw needle, which is part of why most patients find the sensation much more manageable than they anticipated.

The injections themselves take anywhere from five to fifteen minutes depending on how many areas are being treated. You'll feel a quick pinch at each injection point. Some areas, like the forehead, are generally more comfortable. Others, like the crow's feet or the area around the lips, can be more sensitive. Most patients tolerate all of it easily without any numbing.

Once all the injections are placed, you're done. No bandages, no recovery room. Most patients are back in their car within 30 minutes of arriving.

The First 24 Hours After Botox

This is the window where what you do matters most.

What's normal: Small bumps or slight redness at the injection sites that resolve within 20 to 30 minutes. Mild tenderness when you press on the treated areas. Occasionally a small bruise at one of the injection points, which is more likely if you took blood thinners or fish oil before your appointment.

What to avoid for the first 24 hours:

  • Don't lie flat or sleep face-down. Keep your head upright for at least four hours after your appointment to prevent the Botox from migrating before it's settled.

  • Avoid strenuous exercise, heavy sweating, or anything that significantly increases blood flow to the face.

  • Skip alcohol for the rest of the day.

  • Don't rub, massage, or apply pressure to the treated areas.

  • Avoid facials, heat treatments, or any hands-on services on the face.

None of these restrictions are complicated, but skipping them matters, particularly the no-lying-down rule in the first few hours.

Days Two Through Four: What You'll Notice

The Botox is setting. You may start to notice some early softening in the treated areas, but this is not the final result. Some patients also notice their face feeling slightly heavy or a mild tightness in the treatment areas during this window. Both are normal.

Bruising, if it's going to appear, usually shows up within the first day or two and fades within a week. Arnica gel or arnica tablets can help speed that along if bruising is a concern.

Continue avoiding aggressive manipulation of the face, intense heat exposure, and any skin treatments that involve the treated areas.

Days Five Through Fourteen: Results Start Showing

Botox typically begins working three to five days after injection and reaches its full effect at around two weeks. Most patients notice gradual softening during this window rather than a sudden change.

By day seven, most of the initial effect is visible. By day fourteen, you're seeing the final result. If something doesn't look quite right at that point, whether a line that didn't smooth as much as expected or movement that feels uneven, that's the time to let us know. Minor touch-ups are much easier to address within the first few weeks than after the Botox has fully settled.

Take a photo or two at the two-week mark if you can. Having a clear before and after reference makes future appointments easier and helps your provider track what's working and what to adjust.

How Long Results Last and What Affects It

Most patients see results lasting three to four months before the muscle activity gradually returns. A few factors influence that timeline:

Metabolism: Patients who metabolize Botox faster, which is often younger patients or those who are very physically active, may find results fading closer to the two to three month mark initially. This tends to stabilize with consistent treatment over time.

Muscle strength: Stronger muscles in areas like the 11s sometimes need more units to achieve the same duration as a smaller muscle. Getting the dosing right at your consultation helps maximize how long your results hold.

Consistency: Patients who treat regularly, rather than waiting until lines are fully back before rebooking, tend to see longer-lasting results over time as the muscles gradually weaken from reduced use.

A good rule of thumb is to book your follow-up appointment at the three-month mark, before you feel like you've completely worn off. Maintaining consistent treatment is one of the things that separates results that hold well from ones that feel like they're constantly starting over.

Signs Your Botox Is Working Well

Results are working correctly when your lines soften but your expressions still feel natural, when you can raise your eyebrows but the deep forehead lines no longer crease, when you squint but the skin around your eyes doesn't crinkle the way it used to. Movement preserved, lines reduced.

If your brows feel heavy, your forehead feels unusually flat, or something about your expression looks asymmetrical after the two-week settling period, contact your provider. These outcomes are almost always addressable, but they're easier to handle early.

Frequently Asked Questions About Botox in Slidell, LA

  1. How long does Botox last? Most patients see results lasting three to four months. Consistency over time, metabolic rate, and the strength of the treated muscles all influence the exact duration. Patients who treat regularly often find their results holding longer as treatment progresses.

  3. How many units are typical? It varies by area and individual muscle strength. Forehead lines typically need 10 to 20 units, the 11s between the brows usually need 20 to 30, and crow's feet around 10 to 15 units per side. Your provider will walk you through a specific unit estimate for your face at your consultation. You can read more about how units work by area in our Botox guide for Slidell patients.
